work for children named "son" or "daughter"

Post by HeidiLThompson »

I am a T&FH Consultant and have come across a situation where one female and male have several children listed as simply Son or Daughter with only years of birth, and their children's work has been done. As I search for these children and identify them is it appropriate to simply edit the name and leave the work done, or should I create a new person with their actual information so that their work is done specifically to them instead of general "son" or "daughter". I don't want to delete a person with previous work done, or merge them and count the work when their specific name was not used. Advise?

If you live close to a temple, this might be a good question to pose to your temple president.

FamilySearch help/support would be another option if nothing shows up in training materials.

It's appropriate to edit the name if there's enough information to identify it as the same person (for example, same parents, birth date, and location). If there's not enough information to verify that it's the same person, creating a new record could be appropriate.

In principle, I'd agree, but then there's always a possibility of a twin that didn't survive very long.

I'm more concerned that simply saying "son" or "daughter" when there's more than one may not be a valid ordinance. But that's a decision that's made waaaay above my pay grade.

Hi Heidi,
Bless your :P heart for taking the time to -find- these children's names!! !! You deserve a purple heart! As I too have searched for children when i have found their names it is most appropriate to simply edit the name to *... first and middle >>>* since 1 the work has been completed just make sure the records are as complete as possible. 2 Add additional records . (if multiple births exist) 3 then add them. Leave those ordinances as they are now. There is no need to merge. The work has been completed. No need to create a new person (unless there -are- multiple births). Bless your dedicated soul! You are correct ! Angels are rejoicing! Fret not my Beloved sister! <3
