Gospel Library crashes on GrapheneOS without Google Play

The latest update started crashing on me in my profile that doesn't have sandboxed google play installed. It worked perfectly before, but now it only runs with profiles that have google play installed. What changed that made made a harder dependency on google? Can we get it back so it runs fine without it? Also, the tools app has the same thing going on, I would love to utilize both apps without needing to run google play in the background.
