Chromebook External Display

Post by lajackson »

We use DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables for all of the TinyDesk computers in our stake. They are now being replaced with Chromebooks that do not have a DP port.

What are our options? Do we toss the cables and find something else?

I'd double-check what options the monitors have. Most will have more than one option.

I assume that having FM switch out the new computers to Windows machines isn't an option.

There are adapters that will go from HDMI to Display Port, but they tend to be a bit pricey at around $35. The other direction is cheap.

Re: Chromebook Sleep Mode with External Display

I spoke with a clerk who said they have configured their Chromebook to sleep when the cover is closed. When I tried to do that recently, the option was greyed out. Hovering over the switch caused a popup to display saying the option was not available because it is controlled by the administrator.

Does that mean I cannot do it? Or is there another way?

A bit late into the conversation, but as far as I understand the decision to use either Chromebooks or Windows computers is decided by the Stake President.

According to Should you order a Chromebook or a Windows Computer, the decision is made by the STS after consulting with the users.

Well that sounds about right as our Stake President is also an STS. He has made the decision to go with Windows, which I fully concur with! Having experienced using ChromeOSFlex in FSC computers. The OS just isn't flexible enough for day to day computing requirements. By the way this is my personal experience using both operating systems!
