The question is “How to record death of a living member's non-member spouse?” I go to the Marriage section of the member's record and click on the Pencil icon to edit and I'm presented with Edit Marriage or Change Marriage Status options. I choose Change Marriage Status and then Death of Spouse for the Reason. I fill in the death date and then click Save and receive the following message, "Recording this death will also record a death date for the deceased member. Do you want to continue?"
Huh? What in the world are they talking about with that response? I'm trying to record the non-member's death date and the system appears to think I'm trying to record the member's death date. Any thoughts on how to do this correctly? Thank you.

Re: How to record death of a living member's non-member spouse?
Did the non-member spouse actually have a record for some reason (maybe they were a child of record or perhaps excommunicated)? Or was the marriage incorrectly linked to a member with the same name? In the later case the marriage record should not say they were a non-member.
I'd look at the marriage closely. If there is any sign it might be linked to another record, you may want to contact the global service department and have them check before recording the death.

Or maybe the message should have just said person rather than member. It could be that the code isn't checking the status of the spouse.

The membership system allows you to record a marriage of a member to a non-member spouse. That's how he was initially entered I assume.eblood66 wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 2:40 pm Did the non-member spouse actually have a record for some reason (maybe they were a child of record or perhaps excommunicated)? Yes, it definitely does allow that. I was just considering any possible way that a marriage to a non-member could have been (possibly incorrectly) recorded in a way that actually linked to a record that might explain why you're getting that message.mprusse wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 5:11 pm The membership system allows you to record a marriage of a member to a non-member spouse. So I was just suggesting comparing how this marriage is displayed to how other marriages to non-members are displayed. If there is some difference then check with the GSD before proceeding. If it looks the same then you're probably fine to just go ahead.

The correct way to record this is to go to the member's record in LCR, go to the Family tab, click the pencil (edit) icon next to Marriage, select Change Marriage Status, you can select Death of spouse under reason and record the date of death. When the Tools app next refreshes, that non-member spouse should no longer be visible.
