Has anyone set up a FamilySearch ordinance card printing station (like temple kiosks)?

Hi everyone,

I'm coordinating an FSY session here in Brazil (Fortaleza area), and one of the activities involves helping youth prepare and take family names to the temple. Many of them will be doing temple work for the first time or bringing reserved names, so we want to make it as smooth as possible for them to get their ordinance cards printed quickly and easily.

I recently saw a setup in a temple (I think it was one of the newer kiosks or totem-like stations) where a member simply scans a QR code from their phone (generated in the Family Tree app under Ordinances Ready > Take to the Temple), and the machine automatically prints the cards right there—no need for the phone to connect to a printer, no manual PDF sending, just scan and print. It seemed super efficient, especially for groups or events where lots of youth need cards at once.

Since we won't have access to an official temple kiosk, I tried to replicate something similar at home/with a computer + printer + USB QR scanner:

Keep a computer logged into a shared FamilySearch account.

Use Chrome in kiosk mode pointing to the reservations page.

Scan the member's personal QR code with a USB reader.

But when I test it, scanning the QR doesn't load the member's specific cards or trigger printing—it just opens a generic page or gives an error (even though the computer is logged in). From what I understand, those QR codes use a special token that only works with the Church's official temple systems/kiosks (like the ones in some U.S. temples, Japan FSCs, Buenos Aires, etc.), and not in a normal browser.

Has anyone here managed to set up a similar self-service printing station for a stake activity, FSY, youth conference, or FamilySearch center without an official kiosk? Or is there a workaround that's allowed and works well (maybe using shared printers over Wi-Fi, auto-print extensions, or something else)?

It would be a huge help for our FSY youth—many don't have home printers, and queuing at a temple office might not be practical during the session. Any ideas, experiences, or links to setups that worked for you would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this has been asked before—I searched but didn't find much on DIY versions.

And that's where I think this is going to run into problems unless you have the cooperation of FamilySearch. I don't think a regular account is going to be able to print temple cards that were reserved under a different account. Even if you could, I think it would skew your FH stats as it would credit the printing to that one account instead of all the different youth.

Well, I did some tests with my method and the shared account isn't a good idea. What I wanted was to use the generated QR code for printing when using "ordinances ready," just like the totems placed in temples.

I think you're going to have to contact FamilySearch and find out how you can set one up.

Or, you might check to see if the temple has one so they can print them on-site instead of having to keep track of the cards until they reach the temple.

Long term, you're going to want them to know how to print the cards for themselves. You may be stuck doing that now instead of later.

I am wondering if the kiosks might be setup at a FamilySeach Center near you. I checked on the FamilySearch site and it appears that you have FamilySearch Centers in the Fortaleza area. My local Family Search Center had one of these kioks recently installed. Might be a place to check first.
