Access to YM attendance
Why does the YM secretary in a quorum not have access to the class attendance. Should we not be teaching the young men to take on this assignment?

GHB 10.4.2 speaks specifically about the responsibilities of an Aaronic Priesthood Quorum Secretary:jeremytaylor wrote: Mon Aug 25, 2025 8:31 am Why does the YM secretary in a quorum not have access to the class attendance. Should we not be teaching the young men to take on this assignment?
"When quorum secretaries are called, they prepare agendas for meetings and take notes. They also help the ward clerk or a quorum adviser keep track of attendance."
So young men can definitely "take on this assignment", even if they cannot directly enter the attendance themselves into LCR. Additionally, the Handbook also states that the Bishopric should teach the YM about their calling responsibilities, with the active help of advisers. So the specifics about how the attendance is managed in a particular unit, can be discussed and coordinated in that manner. For example, the physical class rolls could be printed and handed to the secretary, and then the clerk or adviser would get that roll from the youth and then enter it into LCR themselves (a bit of legwork, but doable).

Re: Access to YM attendance
Good point. Currently, access is usually limited to presidency members and clerks for privacy and record accuracy. Secretaries often help gather attendance but may not have direct system access. A practical approach is to let the YM secretary collect and report attendance, while an adult leader enters it. That way youth can learn the responsibility without compromising data policies. You might suggest this to local leaders or through official feedback channels.
